But I could still upset you with Millican and Nesbitt

My favourite memory of Everything’s AOR is performing a word perfect rendition of the song with fellow Brit Jon G, walking through the streets of New York late one night, after far too many expensive weak American beers. Although one element of that sentence may be hazily recalled. Perhaps the rendition was actually bloody awful. Probably bemused the Yanks though.

FLINTLOCK …..35 years is a long time to remember FLINTLOCK on Southern TV

Heavens above, today I discovered that Luke Haines’s splendid song, “Leeds United” is also distinguished by a mention of Kendo Nagasaki.

I think for the first two times Nigel is singing:

    “There’s a main man at the office…”
The third time it’s definitely “She’s the …”

Tell me, how does your CD collection grow ?

I remember though, when she was reading Jackie.
I can hear an ‘oh’ sound more than an ‘er’. Also it seems a bit more relevant when reflecting on times past.

I’ve never been convinced about the first Swivel chair, but not sure what it is. Quibble? Guibble?!?

  4. Any other pedants want to comment on those possibilities?

I know where he’s coming from on these – the words have always sounded a bit garbled to me.

I agree with the “though” on the ‘Jackie’ line for what it’s worth*

I’ve had another listen. I also agree with “though”. The first line of the chorus, the first two times, sounds like “Dig’s the main man…” which I know makes no sense, and eventually is a clear “she’s the main man…” later in the song. Like Dave I also can’t make out an “S” sound in the first “Swivel Chair”. Very odd.

  9. Ooh, we play with the lyrics of certain songs at our peril, don’t we? OK, I’m going to change:

I remember her when she was reading Jackie
    to
I remember though when she was reading Jackie

    @DJ

What? Not even the question mark?
Boy, are you a hard man to please. :-)

  11. I always thought it was Milligan and Nesbit – and when I googled it I found that it is Millican, but Nesbitt has two T’s. I’ll go and lie down now.

I always thought it was possibly a mangling of Michaela Nesbit(t), but bunging in an extra syllable?

Surely RACKET should be Racquet ?

  14. Well, either are possible. But applying the “how frequently does the term appear on Google?” test, it would appear you’re right!

Minor point: there should be a question mark after Flintlock. Can you remember when…?

there seems to be a lack of consistency with the spelling of racket/racquet.

  17. Wow, how did that one get through? Aha, I think I changed the spelling after the comment further up, but only did it on one instance. Fetch the Stone of Shame.

(PS: I’ve decided to go with the ITF Rules of Tennis spelling)

Does a good digital version of this song exist? Because the version that I got off the U.S. iTunes store has some defect – it sounds like a skipping record, and it happens about 4 times per second. MT&D isn’t at the top of my HMHB wish list, so any help finding this song would be appreciated.
