Every now and then you get an HMHB lyric which drives you up the wall with an obvious missed opportunity. I was listening to this song yesterday, and as usual cursing at that bit about the “IRN DJ”, because unless I’m mistaken, IRN is Independent Radio News, and therefore doesn’t have DJs (as John Anderson points out above). Surely what NB should have been singing is “ILR DJ” (ILR being Independent Local Radio)? Not only does that work perfectly in terms of framing the DJ as a bit low-rent – no offence to any IRL DJs reading – but it also provides a nice internal rhyme with the “A&R showcase”.

Cuhhhhhh. How hard can it be to be perfect?

I’ve just noticed. It should be ‘cars and buses and lorries and vans’, not ‘cars and lorries and buses and vans’. Not very exciting or, when all our lives are weighed in the balance, of any great significance, but nevertheless factual and, above all, pedantic.

Quite incredible, since 1997 I’ve sung the last line as “PRS golf weekend I always thought you had to pretend”. Never made any sense to me but I just put it down to me not getting the joke.
Why I couldn’t hear ‘attend’ I don’t know.
I feel much better now the mystery has been explained.
