So you’re Brad Friedel – I’m mildly impressed

Let’s face it, who amongst us haven’t been to a wedding reception (evening only, of course) and not thought: “I wish the DJ would put on some Thomas Tallis”? It’s this age-old longing which so clearly inspired I Went To A Wedding…, the highlight of the six-track Saucy Haulage Ballads EP from 2003. That and the chance to tack on another football chant with words that are rather too obscure to be a real chant.

It always sounds to me that he sings ‘Shoop Shoop Shong’…

Brad Friedel listens to “I Went to a Wedding”. Football Focus, BBC1, Saturday 28th November 2008.

Although the real highlight of the clip is John Motson’s Sheepskin coat

Oh, and I’d agree on the “Shong”. Bit of a mistake.

Bugger, you sing a perfectly logical line for years then come here and find it’s not that at all:
Always sang “You can’t show your studs on the Med’ “

On the continent. i.e. in European football. Jim Beglin makes this point at least once in every Champions’ League match.
