Sparks won’t come from Germany anymore
Sponsoring the Moshpits is a Good Idea put to music. Probably. Sparks never came from Germany, even if their keyboard player had that odd facial hair. They did have a song called “Girl from Germany” though. Keith Prowse isn’t a person either, and not a lot of people know that. It’s two people, whose surnames were “Keith” and “Prowse”. And they were eighteenth century ticket salesmen. Really. Thanks to Hoagy.

Sparks came from the USA but they did have great success in Germany and spent quite a long time touring there. I’m not sure they ever lived there though.
I always thought it showed excellent entrepreneurial vision to come up with the idea of sponsoring the moshpits.

Now here’s another subject worthy of pointless debate. The title of this song as detailed on the CD is SPONSORING THE MOSPITS not SPONSORING THE MOSHPITS. Does this mean there was a spelling error on the CD back insert or not?.And should your title be amended? Where will it all lead – or must the pencil be lead. Will I ever sleep soundly again?

@Bill Stow: I went to see ‘Nowhere Boy’ today, which led to leafing through a couple of Beatles/Lennon biographies when I got home. In Philip Norman’s ‘Shout!’, it mentions that Nigel Whalley went to Primary School with Pete Shotton in Mosspits Lane. I know this has a double s but the spelling could be a very obscure Beatles/Merseyside reference.
The school still survives – see http://www.mosspits.com

I’m sure I remember someone telling me that the ‘Gabriel’ of the song is Peter Gabriel, who had at the time been involved in some scheme to support small live music venues. But I might just have dreamt that.

For the youngsters amongst us (unlikely I admit) it bears pointing out that David (Dave) Prowse was the GreenCross Code Man in road safety ads from the 1970′s which links to the line:
“Whereby everyone gets to the gig
All safe and sound!”
He also played Darth Vader but didn’t do the voice as a west country dark jedi lord was possibly just too much of a stretch.

West Country? Nah, mate that’s Bristle.
Check out “Krek Waiter’s Peak Bristle” or for a current example tune into Big Brother where there’s a thick bint contestant from that town.

I’ve just realized that ‘thick bint’ doesn’t narrow it down much.
