In case anyone hasn’t realised, Amazon has the first spot of the new album out in the wild. No appearance yet on the Probe Plus site though.

So just in case that page goes away or something, the details are:

For those of you thinking of rushing in to order the album, the earliest place you could get the last album from was Probe Plus itself, so it may be an idea to hold back from pre-ordering elsewhere until we see what the news is there.

Darn you Mr Tubbs, I had half-baked plans for that 6,000th comment! (having long envied Vendor for his classic 4,000th and having missed Martin’s casual throwaway 5,000th post, at the time I was temporarily boycotting the Lux, probably).

But anyway I didn’t realise nobody had fed back recently about their conversations with Probe Plus supremo Geoff Davies during the June/July tour. So whereas all previous guesses on release date were based on the naive pronouncements of the dreaming artistes themselves, and Mr. Davies remained aloof and unconvinced, the latest estimate of the album being “available at the next gig or the one after that” is based on the actual asurances of the beatnik businessman himself. Hence my confidence.

The tapes are in the bag, the masters have been remasterered, the lyrics have been checked by the lawyers, the artwork has been cobbled together and the band are on their jollies prior to autumn’s melancholy whirl of touring and promotion. Who knows maybe even another 6Music session.

Not long now. Cardiff hopefully. If not then the ‘Spa.

Agreed that the two songs with the French titles were the best ones from the 6Music session. Pity they seem to be largely ignored in a live environment.

I seem to recall the suggestion that the album would be out about Christmas, was actually referring to LAST Christmas. Not the Wham song btw.

L’Enfer C’Est Les Autres is a work of absolute genius and is easily the best new song I listened to in 2010. It achieves in under 3 minutes what the tired and boring ‘Grumpy old whatever’ franchise set out to achieve and ultimately failed to deliver on, when it disappeared up its own faux miserable smug orifice. I’ve never heard a song which explains so succinctly how merely walking down the street can, through a series of other people’s rude, thoughtless, selfish, self-centred behaviours, ultimately raise in ones soul the desire to murder. It better be on the new album, it’s my hymn to the Twenty-first century.

I find it interesting that when the London gig was announced in, er … must be February, we all tapped our noses knowingly and stroked our chins, confidently predicting with a cynical air that it was timed simply to maximise publicity from the Smoke-based musical press and quality papers, by having a gig review at about the time the new album was released. The Lux Familiar Cup was doubtless scheduled to climax at this momentous time. As the day approached, suddenly it became apparent that the bloody thing hadn’t even been recorded yet and we’d believed our own speculation so firmly that we thought it was official. Since then we’ve been rather cautious re all things about the probably-not-bongo-laced thirteenth album (or however many it is, I didn’t bother to count up and I’m sure everyone has their own idea of what counts and what doesn’t) and so we don’t know which tracks are likely to be included, when it’s coming out or what it’s going to be called. Exxo has tantalisingly suggested that it may be out in a month or so, has he managed another exclusive interview in the pub or something?

As for the tracks, well as I said earlier I wouldn’t expect the 6Music tracks to all be included, but recent live evidence suggests Tommy Walsh and probably Left Lyrics will make the cut, RSVP may become a rare gem like Ordinary to Enschede or Epiphany, and L’Enfer looks like being similarly banished to wander the netherworld for eternity. Great things are obviously predicted of Excavating Rita, and hopefully once I can hear it clearly that faith will prove to be justified.

Must go, I’m being distracted by My Family.

Wouldn’t it be ironic if the album version of Excavating Rita proved to be as intelligible as Stavanger Toestub, rendering the London version as faithful as you could possibly get?
