In an issue of local (Merseyside) fanzine 'Breakout' - or, possibly, 'Merseysound' - circa 1981/2, 'Pieces of Glass' described themselves as being, ahem, "melodic pop with a dance beat". I think I am right in recalling that I laughed. Coincidentally, it was in the very same mag that Half Man Half Biscuit (then, presumably, just a concept) received their first press, with an alleged demo being a work-in-progress and containing 'Supercalafragalistic Borussia Moenchengladbach' and 'Bet Lynch is Big Titty'.

Just remembered postscript. They were introduced as "one of the best bands on the Wirral Christian scene". The drummer was a lad called Andy Dowden, who you may or may not have known.

Totally genuine, Mr E. If genuine (you can never be too sure round these parts) I would have definitely seen that band during my own short-lived phase of god-bothering earlier in 1978.
Uh-oh, three coments in a row and I suppose I'm out.

Brilliant info’ that Dave. They were friends with Orchestral Manouvres in the Dark, as I recall, and featured a lead singer who ranted from the Book of Revelation (yes) whilst an unlistenable guitar racket played around him.

NB57 may well have been at the seminal Christian Rock concert in Hoylake, circa August 1978, featuring Wirral God-Botherers ‘Pieces of Glass’. "The rural dean lay inert, In his John 3:16 shirt"
Has always been one of my favourite lines. Simply wonderful.

Thanks for the info on After the Fire, John. ATF were a late 70s early 80s Christian synth pop band who had a minor hit with One Rule For You. It fits in perfectly with the subject matter of the song. .

It’s “After The Fire were a mess on the floor”

ATF were a late 70s early 80s Christian synth pop band who had a minor hit with One Rule For You.
