MATCH REPORTS BY SEASON

Helsingborg IF 1 Ipswich Town 3

And just how good was that? I can't remember a game where everyone had such a confident feeling beforehand, and I've no idea why, but we just did. Nice town, terrific people, and we simply turned it blue. You can't help but feel though that a team which can't get more than 6,000 to 7,000 supporters out for a UEFA Cup second round tie doesn't really have the heart for the fight. But ... More...

Ipswich Town 2 West Ham 3

We've had much blacker periods than this in the last five years, but it's a long time since I can remember the team being so clueless, and the manager trying so many things without a glimmer of anything going right. There's just no creativity anywhere in the side. What's worse, there are players contributing absolutely nothing, yet whereas in the past we'd be calling for their heads, those who are trying hard are ... More...

Ipswich Town 0 Helsingborg IF 0

Well, you wait eighteen months for a nil-nil, then you get two inside a week. I dunno, spoiled, we are. I actually thought Helsingborg were rather good - they got what they came for, and might easily have got more, but they were one of the most efficient sides we've played for a long time. When I saw the lineup (Reuser, Finidi, Stewart but no obvious second striker) I thought George was going ... More...

Ipswich Town 0 Everton 0

And guess what? It was awful. The 4-4-2 lineup could have come from the decent run at the back end of last season, with the exception of having what I think may be a ... More...

Ipswich Town 3 Derby Co 1

The opposition wasn't as glamorous, but there was that distinct excitement in the air which we had in the first home game last season. And Town put on a similarly scintillating performance which, at times in the first half, featured passing as fluent as anything we saw last season. With Finidi and Reuser under instructions to play wide but to cut in as much as to get to ... More...

Ipswich Town 0 PSV Eindhoven 2

Disappointing game. Extreme lack of atmosphere in the ground for 15,000 people even allowing for the fact it was a pre-season friendly. I hope it wasn't the "open end" of the ground which did it, as we'll have to put up with that for a while. George obviously wanted to put out pretty much a first-choice side and get them to play competitively, but the response from the players ... More...
