Ipswich Town home match reports from just another season-ticket holder

MATCH REPORTS BY SEASON

Ipswich Town 3 Gillingham 4

A mediocre performance turned into a disastrous result by a succession of criminal errors at the back. We all laugh about the "Curse of the Manager of the Month Award" but sometimes you have to wonder if there's something in it. The manager couldn't take any of the blame for the errors, but he failed to sort out a ramshackle midfield and somehow contrived to make our left side vanish from the game ... More...

Ipswich Town 1 Stoke City 1

Back down to earth a little, after Tuesday night's excesses, but hey, we're still getting those odd-goal victories where in less fortunate times we wouldn't be, so I'm not complaining. We were just about worth the win (although Stoke were incredibly lucky not to equalise at the end with the one which went off both posts then out), and to be honest, we weren't that much off Tuesday night's pace: I think that ... Ipswich Town 2 Walsall 1

And it came to the point in the season where, after clinging on grimly to a 2-1 lead over Walsall (every disrespect intended, as Danny Baker would say), the crowd erupted in relief. Yes, it had come to that. But much more encouraging all round, and three points on the board; I'm certainly not complaining! So 4-4-2 it was once more, with home debuts for Mahon and Bart-Williams, Naylor unluckily dropped to the bench ... More...

Ipswich Town 6 Burnley 1

A fluke? Or is it all starting to come together? I'd like to think it's more of the latter. The team looked like a really solid unit tonight, and perhaps the only fluke was that the first half was one of those times when everything seems to go in. Goodness knows we've had enough of them when nothing seems to go in (we've had plenty of halves in the past where we've created ... More...

Ipswich Town 2 Rotherham 1

So TBBM (The Bloke Behind Me) says: "it comes to something when the most recognisable name on the pitch is the ****** referee" and he had a point. A lot of Rotherham fans will be setting fire to their Andy D'Urso commemorative teatowels after this one, but we can be thankful to him for three points and for turning a dire match into one we'll remember for, ooh, several days. Our penalty claim ... More...

Ipswich Town 1 West Ham 2

I'm hoping we'll look back on the first half-dozen games of the season as the painful but necessary process of rebuilding, which unfortunately wasn't accompanied by fortunate results. Because let's face it, we're having to cope with the introduction of a brand new defence as well as making up for the loss of our captain and most influential player, and it was never going to be easy. However, even if there were some hints ... More...

Ipswich Town 1 Coventry 1

Funnily enough, I actually enjoyed this match more than the Reading game, despite our performance being even weaker (and the opposition being equally mediocre). Coventry played a much more open game, and allowed us to do the same, and got the same result too. But let's face it, things are a bit of a mess at the moment. The manager's not getting things right, some players are well off-form, and others simply look ... More...

Ipswich Town 1 Reading 1

In case you missed the last episode, we left our heroes capitulating 1-5 to Wimbledon, to the strains of the North Stand justifiably singing "You're not fit to wear the shirt". And I wrote afterwards that, with the exception of Matt Holland and a couple of youngsters, I wouldn't miss any of them if they cleared off in the close season. I mention that just to put things into context, in that anything ... More...
